Sent time vs received time

Hello all,
Usually the time in the sent field of a message and the time it is received is different only by 10 or 15 seconds, but sometimes I find that some messages arrive 2 or 3 hours after it has been sent. Does this have anything to do with my application or it is due to the TD backend?
