Antenna RF track width

by ramon2015 Mon Dec 14, 2015 4:17 pm

Hello,

I have seen the track for the RF in the EVB is pretty thick for being surrounded by copper on th top layer. Let me explain this in detail:

- The RF Track width (calculated as a microstrip line) in a standard PCB should be about 2,57 mm thick for maintaining the 50 ohm at these frequencies. This thicknessis more or less the thickness you use in the EVB, but I have seen you also have coper around the track, which, I think, affects the impedance.

- Then, I have used a CoPlanar Waveguide (CPW) strucutre with ground, which is more similar to the real structure in the EVB and the calculted thickness is smaller.

My question is: which structure should I use for the calculation of the RF track width? simple microstrip line or CPW with bottom ground?

Do you have any application note/guide Line about the PCB layout of the RF pin and track?

Regards, Ramon.
